Why Are Prices Increasing?

Like many businesses, we are facing rising costs for things like domain names, licenses, and energy. To maintain the same level of quality, speed, and reliability you expect from us, we sometimes need to pass on these increased costs in our pricing.

We know price changes are never welcome news. That’s why we’ve worked hard to minimize the impact on you by carefully analyzing where adjustments are necessary and where we can avoid them altogether.

Where Prices Have Increased

For certain products, such as specific domain extensions and VPS packages, our costs have risen. This has resulted in a price adjustment. These changes allow us to keep investing in cutting-edge technologies, enhanced infrastructure, and fast support so that you continue to benefit from top-notch service.

Where Prices Remain the Same

We’re proud to say that many of our products and services are not seeing any price increases. Why? Because the costs for these items have remained stable. And if our costs don’t go up, we see no reason to charge you more. Examples include:

  • Reseller Hosting: Prices for Reseller Essential, Advanced, and Expert remain unchanged.
  • Licenses: Many licenses, such as DirectAdmin, ESET Protect, CloudLinux, and SQL Server maintain their current rates.
  • Hardware Upgrades: Options like additional RAM or storage also remain at their current prices.

We believe in being upfront about what changes and what doesn’t. If our costs haven’t increased, neither will yours.

Redesigned client area release

We are happy to announce that we've launched our completely redesigned My.snel.com client area. The client area has been completely redesigned to provide our customers with the best possible user experience. You may have already had a look but here are a few changes explained and how this will benefit you. 

Our new Client area with a Clean Design

The new client area has soft colors with beautiful typography and spacious graphics. We have redesigned the navigation system. The overall organization of the old version was a bit confusing, so we reworked the navigation system to make more sense.

A new dashboard

The first thing you will notice when you log in is your new dashboard. You will still see the same features but the structure and organization have been improved. Your overview is much cleaner and less confusing. With the call to actions on your dashboard, you can manage, renew and upgrade your server in just a few clicks.

The server management page has changed. It looks cleaner. The management tools can still be found on top of the page but the functionalities are easier te use.

The client area is mobile responsive, so it is designed to functions better on mobile devices including iPhone, Android phones, and tablets like the iPad. You can easily read your bandwidth, graphs and other numeric elements of your server(s). Scheduled network maintenance on 15 July 2015

We will perform maintenance on our core switches on 15 July 2015. The maintenance window starts at 01:00 CEST and ends 01:30 CEST.

During this maintenance window we will perform the following actions:

1. Disconnect uplinks current core switches and connect uplinks new core switches
2. Interconnect current and new core switches

Estimated impact:

There will be a brief (5 minutes maximum) interruption in network connectivity. This will affect all end users.

EU VAT Changes in Early 2015

You may have heard that the European Union will apply new VAT rules from the 1st of January 2015 to every company that delivers electronic services to its customers within Europe.

Our company and most of our customers fall into this category as well. Below we will explain what the changes are and how we are applying The VAT to our customers.

VAT rule changes

Currently, the VAT percentage is based on the country of the supplier. So right now customers in the EU are charged for Dutch VAT.

New VAT rules
From the 1st of January 2015, the VAT percentage must be based on the country of the customer. Basically, this means, that a customer of The Netherlands will be charged for example 21% VAT and a customer from Germany will be charged 19%.

How we apply VAT to our customers
However, the VAT calculation differs for private customers and companies. There are standard rates and reduced rates.

Private customers in NL and the EU
If you are a private customer in the Netherlands you are allowed to pay your own VAT rate and the same rule will be applied to private customers in the EU as well.

Companies in NL and the EU
However, if you are a company in the EU, there are two options during the sign-up process. Depending on your situation you can choose to enter your VAT number or not.

-  When you don’t enter your VAT number we are required to charge the applicable VAT.
-  When you do enter your VAT number during sing up process then you will pay the VAT in your own country and you need to report this in your own country as well.

Private customers outside NL and the EU
Private customers and companies outside the European Union are excluded from VAT charges.

We will apply the new VAT rule to our existing customer’s accounts from the 1st of January which means that invoices generated from the 1st of January will contain the new VAT rate.

New updates to improve nginx speeds

A series of new features and improvements in the latest version of nginx are promising to make the solution faster than ever. This could be good news for a large number of businesses, as the application is one of the fastest-growing web servers on the market and is now the world's third most popular web server.
Therefore, the release of version 1.4 could be very welcome, as it offers users the ability to make their websites faster and more reliable, improving the user experience.

SPDY support

Among the more notable changes is the introduction of support for the SPDY protocol. This has been designed from the ground up to transfer web content much faster than older alternatives and specialist news site Developer Tech explained this can help websites load up to 40% faster.
It could therefore be useful to many businesses and is already in use on some of the world's largest websites, with Facebook and Dropbox among those benefiting from the solution.

PageSpeed arrives Just as the 1.4 update comes out, it has also been announced by Google this month that it has launched its PageSpeed module for nginx.
This aims to allow webmasters to improve the speed of their sites without having to become experts on web performance optimisation. However, until now, it has only been available to users of the Apache web server.
Google stated that by running as a module inside nginx, the ngx_pagespeed tool rewrites web pages for faster loading. This includes compressing images, minifying CSS and JavaScript and extending cache lifetimes, as well as a range of other tweaks.

Early beta testers of the module included WordPress hosting provider ZippyKid, which reported a 75% reduction in page sizes and a 50% improvement in page rendering speeds as a result of the solutions.
The improvements released for nginx recently should make it even more attractive to web developers. Many users are already turning to the software as it offers a more streamlined solution than Apache and if benchmarks indicate improved performance as a result of the updates, this could persuade even more sites to make the switch.
