What is the purpose of backups and why should you backup your data?
Every day a large amount of data is produced by small to big companies. Data loss is, therefore the biggest risks for companies that depend on their data. Nevertheless, data backup is often overlooked. The point of backing up data is to enable restoration of data at a later point in time when something crucial has happened. Fortunately, we do offer backup solutions for every server plan. Below we will explain what type of backup solutions we offer.
We offer two types of backup solutions at Snel.com:
- Full backups from R1Soft
Each solution offers various benefits. We have explained the differences and benefits of both solutions below.
What is R1Soft Continuous Data Protection?
Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is a cost-effective solution to traditional, incremental backups. This process starts in the same way as a traditional backup, a full snapshot will be made of all your data. After the first initial replica, the changing data will continuously be monitored and only the files or blocks where information has changed will be saved. The performance of your server will not be affected because the system only needs to read the changed parts of your data rather than rereading all of your data. The main benefit is that you can exclude selected files and folders from the replication or you can recover your selected files. R1Soft also allows you to determine the frequency of your replication so you can change these settings anytime you want.

Some R1Soft Features
Disk safe verification
Disk safe verification monitors your data to make sure that your data doesn’t get corrupted. You can schedule Disk Safe Verification to run periodically or on demand, you will help you detect in the event of corruption.
Quick restore helps you to recover large file systems or entire servers very fast with Bare-Metal Restore. You can even restore while a backup job is running.
Data retention policies help you to define a replication goal (for example, every 15 minutes) and how many recovery points to retain. Old recovery points are automatically merged and their storage is recycled.
Control Panel interface
Control panel interface secures local authentication of users. It is Integrated with popular Linux Control Panels such as cPanel and Plesk Onyx.
Why you should purchase R1Soft

What is a Snapshot?
A snapshot is a copy of the VPS from the moment that the snapshot is taken. In order for you to understand this better, we will explain it in the following example. Let's say that you went out for a dinner and someone wants to take a picture of a particular moment, this is a snapshot. So you can see it as a copy of your files in an instant point in time.
All of our Cloud VPS plans include snapshots. You can take a snapshot of your complete file system and revert this snapshot back on your CloudVPS at any time. Snapshots can be very useful for certain types of data and it may be inappropriate for other types of data because it doesn't offer advanced intelligence like the backup software of R1Soft. Snapshots are incremental backups, so only the files that have been changed will be saved.
This minimizes the effect on your storage due to the fact that not all of your data will be duplicated. You can also place the snapshot on another Cloud VPS which is different than automated backups of R1Soft, this is not possible with the backup software of R1Soft.
What are the advantages of a snapshot?
Snapshots provide quicker and easier access to data and can be leveraged by backup applications to enable features like instant recovery. But while snapshot technology is a helpful supplement to a backup plan, it is not considered a full replacement for a traditional backup. This is simply because the software is more intelligent and it is able to communicate with your applications.
