Migrating from CentOS to AlmaLinux: A Reliable and Future-Proof Alternative
Red Hat stated that the free CentOS operating system would no longer be developed after December 8, 2020. Instead, they would concentrate on the fundamentally different market-oriented CentOS Stream, which is also free. This meant that by the end of 2021, CentOS 8, which was released in 2019, would no longer be supported. Users of CentOS 8 were left with a difficult decision to make as a result of the drastically reduced timeframe for (security) updates. As of January 1, 2022, it is not recommended to run CentOS 8 in a production environment. As a result, we have thought about alternatives for both current and potential customers. We have decided that AlmaLinux is the best option after careful deliberation.
